Oakland Kung Fu, Taichi & Qigong Classes

Our in-person classes take place at Deep Root Center, located at 1244 23rd Avenue, in Oakland’s San Antonio District. We’re easy to find and welcome students from throughout the Bay Area.

Just wear comfortable workout clothing and bring a water bottle. If you’re joining a Qigong or meditation class, a yoga mat is helpful but not required. We provide all other necessary equipment.

Yes! All of our classes—including Shaolin Kung Fu, Taichi, and Qigong—are designed to welcome beginners. Our instructors guide you step-by-step, ensuring everyone can progress at their own pace, regardless of previous experience.

Yes—parking is available, and we want your visit to be smooth and stress-free. Here are your best options:

Street Parking: Available on 23rd Avenue and surrounding side streets. We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early to find a convenient spot.

Peak Class Times: Classes are Tuesday/Thursday 6:00–7:00 PM and Sunday 4–6:30 PM. Parking is typically easier during these evening and weekend hours.

Parking Tips: Many of our long-term students (4+ years with us) reliably find parking by arriving a bit early and are comfortable walking a short block if needed.

Additional Options: If our block is full, try parking along 12th Street or in front of the Lao Family Community Development Center at 2325 E 12th St, Oakland, CA 94601—both are within easy walking distance.

Most students park within a 1–2 block radius. Many find the short walk is actually a nice way to transition into class—helping you shift gears from your day and get into the right mindset for practice. Our neighborhood is residential, and parking often opens up in the evenings.

Absolutely! We offer on-demand online courses and virtual workshops in Qigong, meditation, and Shaolin Kung Fu. Anyone, anywhere in the world can join and learn at their own pace.
